Here's the story. No, we don't sell bikes. We sell software.
How do I purchase Max?
Max 9 may be purchased via our web shop.
Before purchasing, you will have to either create a Cycling '74 account, or sign in to your existing account. You can read more about Cycling '74 accounts here.
Your account will automatically receive the Max license and authorization after purchasing, as long as your computer is connected to the internet.
How much does Max cost?
We offer permanent licenses, annual subscriptions, and monthly subscriptions for Max, as well as Student discounts and an Ableton Customer discount. Please visit our shop to learn more about pricing options.
How long will it take to process my order?
With the account-based authorization system in Max 9, you may authorize Max and/or Max 9 with the RNBO add-on as soon as your payment has been processed. This requires that your computer is connected to the internet.
For payments via wire transfer, the order processing time will vary, depending on your bank and the business day. If you need to use Max immediately, we advise that you download our 30-day demo while your order is being processed.
Why was I charged a VAT fee?
If you are purchasing from the EU, a required VAT fee is added during the checkout process. This fee must be paid, unless you have an exemption number that you can include during the purchasing process.
Do you sell Max for Live?
No. Max for Live is an Ableton product, which should be purchased directly from their web shop. If you purchase Live Suite, Max for Live is automatically included. If you own Live Standard, you can purchase Max for Live as an add-on.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes! We offer a Student discount and an Ableton Customer discount.
If I qualify for the Ableton Customer discount and the Student discount, can I get both discounts on a permanent Max license?
No. Cycling '74 does not offer combined discounts.
Can subscription payments be put toward the price of a permanent license?
No. Subscription payments are not considered a payment plan. A traditional payment plan is for a specific version of the software, whereas a Max subscription includes free upgrades to the latest version of Max.
How can I see what version of Max and RNBO I own?
To see a list of all licenses assigned to your Cycling '74 user account, sign in to your account on our website, click on the profile icon in the upper-right corner of the webpage, choose 'Your Account' from the drop-down menu, then click on the 'Licenses' tab. All Max 7-9, RNBO, and subscription licenses will be listed here, including expired or deactivated ones.
Please note that licenses prior to Max 7 will not be displayed in your online profile. If you own a Max 4-6 license, look for the serial number that was emailed to you when you purchased Max directly from Cycling '74. If you are unable to find it, contact Support.
How do I purchase older versions of Max?
We only sell the latest version of Max, which is Max 9. However, with a Max 9 license (permanent or subscription) you are able to authorize Max 7-8 as well.
If you wish to authorize Max 6 or earlier, first purchase a full license or annual subscription of Max 9 -- not a monthly subscription. Download the older version you want and then follow the instructions for authorizing that version.
You may still use and authorize Max 9.
How do I order Max and RNBO as a gift?
To purchase a Max or Max + RNBO license as a gift, place your order anonymously on our online shop. This means that you will not sign in or create a Cycling '74 user account.

- Make sure you are not currently signed in. To do this, look at the upper right corner of the Shop page. If you see “Sign In” then proceed with your purchase. (If not, click the profile icon, then "Sign Out").
- After placing an order on the online shop, you will receive several emails. There is a confirmation and receipt email, along with an activation email with the subject line “Activate your Max purchase”. Forward this “activation” email to the gift recipient. This allows them to authorize Max with a new or existing Cycling '74 user account.
Where is my billing information?
You can access your billing information by logging into our website with your Cycling '74 account, and navigating to 'Your Account'.
