Sales and Transfer Policies

Individual owners may sell their copy of Max unless they purchased an academic license or received the software as an NFR (Not For Resale). The sale will include all upgrades associated with the copy of Max you are selling. Note that RNBO is an add-on to Max and therefore cannot be sold or transferred on its own. Please read the restriction details below.

In order to transfer a license, please follow these steps:

1. Have the new owner create a Cycling '74 user account on our website (if they don't already have one).
2. Email sales@cycling74.com with the following:
   • New owner's full name and email address (the email address should be the one used for their Cycling '74 user account).
     
   • Current owner's full name and email address (the email address should be the one used for your Cycling '74 user account).
   • Any other helpful or important information regarding the license.
3. We will register your copy of Max in the new owner's name, and contact both parties once the transfer is complete. At that time your authorization will be deactivated.
   

Institutional licenses may not be sold or transferred to any individual or other institution. If you would like to transfer any licenses from one department to another within the same institution, please email sales@cycling74.com.

Restrictions

• You may not sell any earlier version of the software that has been upgraded. An upgrade is not a separate license. (For example, if you own Max 8 and then upgraded it to Max 9, it is the same license.) If you sell any part of your license, you sell all of your rights to the software.
• If we receive a request from a new buyer for an older version of Max that has already been upgraded, we will delay the registration until both parties have been contacted regarding the sale of the license. To complete the transfer, all versions of the software, including the latest upgrade, will be transferred to the new owner.
• If you sold a Max license that was initially purchased with the Ableton customer discount, you are ineligible from purchasing an additional Max license with the same Ableton Live serial number.
• You may not sell or transfer any Academic license of Max or RNBO.
• You may not sell or transfer any NFR (not for resale) copy of Max or RNBO.
  
• Institutional licenses may not be sold or transferred to any individual or other institution.
• RNBO is an add-on to Max and therefore cannot be sold or transferred on its own.
