In order to meet the needs of our diverse Max community, we have a variety of license types set at different durations and price points.
There is only one installer and one version of the Max application. There are no limited versions, except for the Max 6 Runtime. This means that every license we offer, including the 30-day demo, has the same functionality.
Permanent Licenses are licenses that have no start or end date. You will own that version of Max/RNBO forever. Minor point upgrades (i.e. from Max 8 to Max 8.5) are free. However, major upgrades (i.e. from Max 7 to Max 8) are paid upgrades.
Subscription licenses are licenses that have a specified start and end date. We offer annual subscriptions and monthly subscriptions to accommodate the different needs of our user-base. All subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel. Subscription licenses can always upgrade to the latest version of Max for free.
The Ableton customer discount is 50% off the price of a permanent Max license for those who already own Ableton Live Suite or Ableton Live Standard with Max for Live. A Max for Live or Live Suite serial number is required to obtain the discount. Purchases can be made here. Please note that we do not offer combined discounts, so the Ableton customer discount cannot be combined with the Academic discount.
Academic licenses are licenses that are priced for students and teachers. This means that the license is registered and owned by an individual end-user. We offer both permanent and annual subscription academic licenses. Academic licenses can be purchased with a student/teacher ID or proof of enrollment/employment at an academic institution. Please note that we do not offer combined discounts, so the Academic discount cannot be combined with the Ableton customer discount.
Institutional licenses are set at price points created for institutions and organization. These licenses are supported differently than our individual consumer licenses purchased via our online shop, which are designed for single-user ownership.
The primary differences between institutional license and individual consumer licenses are extended transferability, unique authorization methods, and access to license management tools. Institutional licenses are registered and owned by the institution, not the individual. We offer both permanent and annual subscription institutional licenses, as well as discounts on licenses purchased in bulk.
