How much do subscription licenses cost for institutions? Do you offer bulk discounts?
The price for subscription licenses depends on the quantity purchased. We offer discounts for higher quantities. To see a full rundown of our quantity pricing, please refer to our Institutions Shop page.
Is it possible to purchase subscription licenses with different expiration dates?
Yes! We can accommodate different expiration dates. However, the quantity pricing listed on our Institutions Shop page is per expiration date. For example, if you own a ten seat annual subscription that expires on October 1st, 2025, and a 50 seat annual subscription that expires on April 1st, 2026, the 10 seat subscription would receive the 10-49 quantity rate, and the 50 seat subscription would receive the 50+ quantity rate.
Do institutional subscriptions automatically renew?
No. Since all institutional orders are processed manually, subscription licenses do not automatically renew.
How do I renew my subscription?
When you are nearing the end of your subscription period, send us an email at sales@cycling74.com, asking for your subscriptions to be renewed for another year. Please include the full name of your institution, and the number of subscription licenses you would like to renew. Since these orders are processed manually, we can adjust the number of licenses annually.
How long is a subscription?
One year, and can be renewed manually each year.
Is there a minimum number of seats required for a subscription?
No. We do not have a minimum purchase requirement.
How many machines can a single subscription license authorize?
One license will authorize one computer. Likewise, if you purchase 10 subscription licenses, you can authorize 10 machines.
How are subscriptions authorized?
We offer the same authorization options for subscription licenses as we do for permanent licenses: Activation Codes, Keyfile, iLok, and KeyServer. You can choose one of these options, or mix and match. For further information, please see our article Authorization Options for Institutions.
What if an upgrade is released during the subscription period?
With a subscription license, you can always upgrade to the latest version of Max for free, this includes both minor point upgrades, and major version upgrades.
What if my institution already owns Max?
If you already own permanent Max licenses for a previous version, you may want to purchase upgrade licenses instead. Check out our Institutions Shop page, which provides information on quantity pricing for Max 9 upgrades. To request an official quote or invoice, you can either email us directly at sales@cycling74.com, or fill out the Sales Contact form on our website. Please note that upgrade pricing is based on how many permanent Max 7-9 licenses you currently own, not how many upgrades you wish to purchase.
If you wish to purchase subscription licenses in addition to your permanent licenses, you will be able to authorize both license types separately.
Is the subscription version different from a permanent license?
No. There is only one installer for the Max application. The only difference between a subscription and a permanent license is the amount paid for the program and whether or not your license expires after some period of time.
