If you encounter issues with Max such as unexpected crashes, problems with the database, startup issues, audio playback, or difficulty accessing external hardware devices, it can help to reset Max’s preferences. This requires you to delete a hidden folder, as described below.
Note that resetting Max's preferences will require you to reauthorize Max and to reset any custom settings, such as those in the Audio Status window, or any custom paths that you may have added to the File Preferences window. Also note that Max will take slightly longer to open on the first launch after resetting because it must rebuild the preferences and database.
Mac
- Quit Max.
-
Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/
- To get to this folder: copy the path, switch to Finder, select Go > Go to Folder, paste the path and click Go.
-
Delete the entire Cycling '74 folder and empty the Trash.
- Please note that deleting this folder will reset Max's preferences to the factory defaults, and remove your authorization. You will need to log in again under Help > User Account and Licenses to reauthorize Max.
- Restart Max.
- If this does not solve your problem, perform a full clean install of Max.
